Little Help?

Hey there.

I'd like a little help. Nothing big - just a bit of data collection. As I bring more people on board, particularly people other than authors, it would be very useful to give them an idea of the kind of compensation they can expect for their services.

To do this, I need to a) figure out how much the book will sell for, and b) around how many copies will be sold. I've created a couple of polls for you all to fill in (links and details below).

How much would you pay for the Words of Fiction book? [link]

Remember - the profits will be split between all people involved, and CreateSpace, the printer, will be taking a hefty chunk of the overall price. $10 for example would only produce $2.50 profit at best (without paying extra for their "Pro" package).

Once I've got the price figured out, then I can start to plan roughly how much people will get er book sold.

How many copies will you be getting? [link]

Please include in this amount any copies you think your friends or family may buy (those that won't be fill out this poll).

This will also help me figure out costs, profits, etc.

Chapter 1: The Merchant and the Girl

The wheat swayed gently as the small single-person spaceship made its final approach and touched down on the landing lot. Haven't had any submissions in an age. I'm thinking of just releasing it as-is (~100 pages) as eBooks (ePub and Kindle's MOBI format). But it's hard to charge a lot for eBooks nowadays. I was thinking $5 maybe? What do you think?

Sorry for the late reply! Well what you were thinking to do doesn't seem to be a bad idea. It's just a matter of channelling to people who'd be interested in buying it, perhaps. If people think $5 is too high, you could make it half-price for a certain period of time, something like that. Unfortunately I'm not allowed to buy stuff online, but if I could, I would definitely buy one.

No worries

I think what I'll do is make it available for $2.99; this is the sweet spot for the seller, with a decent amount of the profits (99c is, like, 30% or something crazy). And maybe if I make a second edition, I can put the first book down to 99c. All depends on how well it takes off though, I guess.

I'm actually thinking of starting a Kickstarter project. Half to get publicity and pre-orders for the book, and half to get the word out that I'm looking for authors to share in the project. Hopefully I'll at least get some more authors through it, even if I don't sell that many books. What do you think of that one? Bold, huh?
